Today I cut or trimmed depending on your outlook the two bushes in front of my house. Some might wonder why I would care when I’m moving in a few months, but I feel it is being a good steward to prolong the ugliness my house will turn into without occupants.
Nonetheless, as I cut my way through the trunks I found an astonishing reality. Even though these bushes looked completely dead there was greenery below the surface of the bark. I knew from 13 years of living here that they were not dead and within weeks their leaves would be yellow and covering the entire window if not kept up on. Yet on the surface they were telling a completely different story.
I wonder what stories we are telling to those around us and especially those we DON’T interact with, but they are watching us just the same. Are we bearing fruit or does it even look like we have “life” within us? Are we completely unaware of what God wants to do in outlives because the status quo as worked for us thus far? Our head knowledge tells us that to dig deeper and risk will cause discomfort and maybe even pain. If course there is great potential scraping off the old could bring tremendous joy, but we convince ourselves the risk is too great to find out.
What potential lies within you that you have not tapped into?
God has given us power to change our world’s so why aren’t more of us doing that in dramatic fashion?
Isaiah 48:17 says, “This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.”
God is ready are you???
